* 5 Rounds, Game in 90 Minutes with 5 Second Delay
* Rounds 1-3 start on Saturday at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 6 p.m.. Rounds 4 & 5 start Sunday at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m..
* Prior to the start of Round 3, a player may request a half-point bye for any round.

This year Memphis in May will be celebrating the great country of Sweden. Shelby County Chess invites you to join us for a tournament and discussion with Swedish WIM Inna Agrest!

WIM AGREST TALK
         Between Rounds 2 & 3
WIM Agrest will talk about her success as an individual, as a traveling chessmaster, and as a part of National Championship (Final Four & Pan-American) Webster University chess team. Learn about Sweden's history, its role in the chess world, and info about its people, places, palaces & pawns.  Bring your chessboards and books for her to autogaph and  your cameras to catch those great Kodak moments with you and WIM Agrest!

MEMPHIS CITYWIDE SCHOLASTIC CHESS TOURNAMENT:
* 4 Rounds, Game in 30 Minutes

* Sections:
     + Rated: K-2,  K-6,  K-12
     + Unrated:  K-12-Reserve

* Round 1 starts at 10:30 a.m.

* One bye (1/2-point) allowed for any round. Must notify the director of the bye prior to the beginning of Round 2.

Announcing... Shelby County Chess' Spring Break Chess Camp, March 11-15! Your instructors for the week will be Sam Brownlow and Rafi Chowdhury. As always, we have a beginner and advanced group for all levels of skill.

THE SCHEDULE

*9-9:30 Freeplay: an informal tournament, offering all the campers a chance to warm up and get to know each other.

*9:30-10:15 Opening Instruction: advanced students will learn a new opening each day
, while our beginner students are coached on opening basics and general strategy.

   + Monday - Sicilian, Scheveningen
   + Tuesday - The Anti-Najdorf (if you learned the Najdorf at our President's Day Camp, then you'll really like this!)
   + Wednesday - King's Indian Defense
   + Thursday - The English
   + Friday - French Defense (Exchange Variation)

*10:15-11 Opening Tournament: students will have a chance to gain hands on experience with their opening lesson as they battle it out in a tournament.


*11-12 Middlegame Instruction: lessons will be mostly puzzle-based, which teach a player how to look for tactical opportunities and "see the board".


*12-1 Lunch Break: Pizza and drink are available for purchase on-site. You are free to take a break from chess, relax your mind, and enjoy the company of fellow campers. Students may play handheld videogames during this hour, play ping-pong or foosball, and play board games supplied by us.

 
*1-2 Endgame Instruction: students will be taught everything from basic to advanced mating strategies and other winning combinations.


*2-4 Daily Tournament: 

   + Monday - Team
   + Tuesday - Fischer-Random
   + Wednesday - Individual
   + Thursday - Bughouse
   + Friday - Doubles

MISCELLANEOUS

*Students are free to bring a sack lunch or purchase pizza and drink on-site.
*As always, Before/After care can be provided on an as-needed basis for those parents who can't make the 9 a.m. start or 4 p.m. pickup. Just contact us ahead of time and we will work something out.
*Students may bring handheld videogames to play during the lunch break, although playing chess is highly encouraged :-) But in many cases it may help him/her unwind from deep chess thinking, so it is allowed during this hour ONLY. Other activities will also be provided by the camp.

+ Registration:  On site 10 am -10:20 am.
+ Rounds: Rd. 1@ 10:30 am,  Rd. 2 @ 12:15 pm, LUNCH 1:45 pm - 2:30 pm, Rd. 3 @ 2:30 pm, Rd. 4 @ 4:15 pm, DINNER 5:45 pm - 6:30 pm, Rd. 5 @ 6:30 pm; projected end 8:00 pm.
+ 2 Sections:  Under 1400 and Over 1400.
+ Entry Fee = $20.00 ($25.00 on site)
+ Prizes:  Cash to top three places each section, 70% returned, prizes proportional based on section size.

Kid's Knight Out:  Game:  4SS, G/30 d5
+ Registration: On site 3:00 pm - 3:45 pm.
+ Rounds:  1st round 4:00 pm, DINNER after 2nd round,  Cookies and Milk after 4th round; projected end 8:45 pm.
+ 3 sections - U600, U1000, and Unrated (only those without ratings eligible to play in this section)
+ Entry Fee: $15.00 ($20.00 on site)

Shelby County Chess invites you to join us for our next camp, this President's Day on Feb. 18! The coaches for this camp are Sam Brownlow and Korey Kormick. Players of all skill levels are welcome - everyone from beginners to aficionados!
